Introducing the Online Livelink Performance Suite
- What is the transactional load of your Livelink (Open Text Content Server) system?
- What transactions are your users performing?
- How many Livelink threads do you need to meet the average load?
- What about peak bursts of activity?
- What is the Usage Profile of your Livelink system?
- And why should you want to know?
Up until now, the answer to those questions probably only came after spending thousands of dollars on a Performance Audit, Sizing & Scaling, or System Design service provided by a Technical Services consultant usually from Open Text Global Services. But no more! Now you can get the answer to these questions online and for free at https://www.livelink-experts.com/performance.
Because of the modular and extensible design of Livelink / Content Server, there are hundreds, perhaps even thousands of distinct and disparate applications and solutions built from that single engine. It is virtually impossible to know ahead of time exactly how many distinct types of transactions any particular Livelink-based system can and does perform (which are two very different things). There are literally thousands of different functions and most functions have many optional parameters and arguments ... there is no commonality that typically allows individual Livelink deployments to be compared and contrasted making it very difficult for customers to know whether or not they have a healthy system.
An Usage Profile is the name that Open Text gives to the specific mix of transactions that your Livelink-based solution performs. It is not prescribed by Open Text but determined by your use of Livelink and until you do determine your particular Usage Profile the best you can do is guess as to the amount and type of resources required to meet the load on your system. Unfortunately for most customers, the price of determining their Usage Profile is simply too great to be practical ... practically speaking for most people deployments, it is far less expensive to over-specify the amount of resources required (or wait until the feces hits the spinning fins and apply more resources once users start to complain).
Now, if you use the Online Livelink Performance Suite, not only can you determine your Usage Profile and the number of Livelink Threads you need to meet a predicted load, but you can also help create a database of Usage Profiles that can legitimately be compared to each other as their solutions are the same. That is, you will be able to compare your <solution> deployment against similar <solution> deployments; you will be able to see how your service compares to others and even accurately predict the required resources for a future service you are considering to deploy, expand or enhance.
You will also enjoy the benefit of an analysis of your performance data as compared to both Best Practice and to other, similar data uploaded to the community. And, when you create a new Usage Profile regularly you will have the historical data required to perform a trend analysis of your deployment allowing you the ability to proactively procure and deploy new services before your users tell you you have to.
The suite is available today for all members of Livelink-Experts.com; it's free to join and free to use so why not check it out?
